No.40

No.40 is a scene that feels like a normal experience within the Torrance home: Wendy and Danny watch a movie. Except that Wendy also tries to keep Danny away from Jack, who’s just gone to bed— and it’s lunchtime.

American History/Culture

Opening the scene on a movie talks about American pop culture. Summer 42 is a film on sexual awakening in an immature boy, who falls for a war-widow while on vacation in Nantucket. It reflects an instance of past nostalgia, wherein the past shows to be not as wholesome as one would prefer.

Domestic abuse

Summer of 42 is a deeply inappropriate movie for Danny to watch. Even if it was filmed in the 1970’s and things weren’t as explicit— it’s not for a 5-6 year old.

Wendy tries to keep Danny away from Jack for his own safety.

The Maze

Kubrick pulled his styling for the Torrance home and the West Wing Living Quarters from Summer of 42 and he shows you.

Ghost Story

An easy explanation for Jack going to sleep in the morning, and for his strange behavior around his son.

Cabin Fever

An easy explanation for Jack going to sleep in the morning, and for his strange behavior around his son.

The camera opens on the film Summer of 42 and pans out to see Wendy and Danny composed like they’re in their living room within The Lobby.

The Lobby, but it’s important to pay attention to the stylings within Summer of 42 as that’s shown within the Boulder Apartment.
