This theme concerns accepting an experience at face value. Danny describes Tony showing him things as though he goes to sleep; Jack wakes from a dream of killing Wendy and Danny. The resemblance connects the two experiences without making their purposes identical.
The question is what each experience reveals and what the character does with it. See Jack’s Dream, Tony, and Truth + Fantasy.

The Dream and the Grady Accounts
The description of cutting the family into little pieces resembles Jack’s later words to Delbert Grady in No.53 more closely than Ullman’s account of Charles Grady in No.5. It connects false fatalism and the ghost story with the already visible danger of Jack’s violence.
