Theme

"Feel Like I'll Have to Leave a Trail of Breadcrumbs Everytime I Come In"

Visually this theme of the hotel as maze, fairytales and fantasy, and the Overlook as the Torrance’s normal home are repeated/reiterated.

It is also applied to the psychological maze the viewer, Wendy and Danny encounter while living with Jack, established by the response:

Halloran: Don't let it get you down Mrs. Torrance - it's big but it still ain't nothing but a kitchen...

This is conceptually reiterated during Wendy and Jack’s interaction in No.65.

This IS just like a kitchen, a kitchen in the Torrance home, which includes manipulation, lying, control, and abuse.

Wendy’s earlier remark about needing a trail of breadcrumbs in the enormous Kitchen becomes a structural connection to Danny’s escape. In No.88–Image 2093, the marked route gives physical form to that idea.

What was a joke about finding one’s way through the hotel becomes a practical need in the Hedge Maze, joining the interior and exterior mazes.
