Time Clock

A direct signifier to employees and work, the placement of the time clock and the scenes that play out there give some interesting parallels— especially because Jack’s “work” becomes conflated with “kill”.

A time clock is shown in literal practical places: the kitchen and within The Green Hallway, but both of these settings involve abuse and intent to harm. In No.16, Danny and Halloran talk about dangers in the hotel. No.38 (and No.79 which is the same space) has Danny triking “to” the grady girls and No.79 has Jack scaring Danny out of hiding to try and kill him.

The Time Clock

The time clock in the Green Hallway repeats No.16. Its placement near Ullman’s Office connects the space with Jack’s work, Danny and Jack’s work, and the effect of Jack’s work on the family.
