Head Chef refers to Halloran, Head Chef of The Overlook.
Visually Halloran is aligned with the Calumet brand Chief on the Calumet baking powder in No.16, which semiotically connects him to the “Head Chief” portrait in No.11.
The rental car Halloran drives is a Pontiac, which is a car brand named after a war chief famous for his role in the war named for him.
His role is the head of the kitchen, but Grady refers to him as an “N***er Cook”, showing through jealousy and rage is often racism.
