Who Is Tony

Tony is introduced to the viewer during No.4, without any context, just a finger wiggle and a funny voice from Danny.

However in No.6, we get a sense of who “Tony” really is: a mechanism for Danny’s safety and awareness.

Danny describes Tony as “the little boy that lives in my mouth”, a child-like understanding of the inner voice of the self. Having Danny further describe that Tony ‘hides in his stomach’ is an indicator of Tony’s connection to fear.

When we meet Halloran it’s shown that both Danny and Halloran can communicate telepathically, however hearing Halloran talk through how he learned of his abilities is different from how the viewer learns of Danny’s Tony (No.6)

Interjected as the Doctor/Social Worker engages Danny around Tony, Wendy asserts Tony is Danny’s imaginary friend. Shown in No.6 (and further supported in No.38 and No.54) that Tony is actually a defense mechanism brought from harm.
