Danny Shirt Red White Blue

Kubrick’s use of light to communicate what he wanted is verified in a few places:

In No.79, as Danny is hiding in a metal sideboard, his sweater looks like its dark red and blue on an off-white base, but when as we see him wearing this sweater from No.72 on, it’s dark red but green.

Kubrick meant to convey dirty, dried, red white and blue within the sideboard, and achieves it by manipulating the darkness around the shot.

During No.50, Danny is bathed in green in bed, even though during No.13, the room is a creamy off-white. This is the same green shown in No.48 (and No.12), and in Jack’s shirt No.24.

Kubrick intentionally manipulates the light around the shot so he can convey what he wants.

The collared shirt beneath Danny’s sweater continues the film’s attention to his outfits and their layered colors and patterns.
