Black and White

Idiomatically, Black and White signifies “the truth”: a black and white situation is one in which it is easy to understand what is right and wrong.

When you bridge this connotation with the Black and White photos juxtaposed with the Native American blankets, it becomes clear that this relates to not only the way Jack treats the rest of his family but the way that Americans have treated its other citizens.

Having the final shot be a black and white photo of Jack can be taken to mean you’re seeing this character in the truth of the situation. Not that he’s been transported to 1921 (although you could certainly see it that way), but that the behavior we have witnesses in 1980 is akin to the behavior witnesses by those in the photo. It is “the truth” of how the space was “settled”.
