Sexual Objectification

Much like the violence against women, sexual objectification is a really clear theme in The Shining.

You’ve got the sexualized women in struggle in The Boiler Room—and one could argue that this would technically be a male space, but that supports my argument. It’s normalized and therefore “accepted” to be in your workspace.

Jack refers to his wife as “the ole sperm bank upstairs”.

There’s a sexual pin up calendar in Durkin’s Garage, Halloran’s condo boasts 2 women in sexualized poses— one is sexualized slavery, the other is sexualized blaxploitation.
