Left + Right / Right + Left
Relating to Doubling, Mirroring, and Kubrick as an Unreliable Narrator, it’s an effect Kubrick employs to show choices. Often it will be showing one side of the space in one shot and including the other side in another shot/sequence, conveying a completely different message.
For example we first wee Jack come through the Green hallway to throw metal rings on the floor, but we see him walk through a completely different hallway and part of the hotel to come up the stairs to stalk and kill Halloran.
This physical disconnect in spatial direction can metaphorically speak to privilege, access, and awareness.
