Wendy’s Personality

Tied strongly to “Jack’s point of view cannot be trusted”, Kubrick as an Unreliable Narrator AND the Domestic Abuse narrative— Wendy’s personality is that of an abused woman.

It’s not how she’s described by Jack in No.5, “a confirmed ghost story and horror film addict”, as we’ll hear in No.24, when she tells Jack (and us) how she found the hotel scary, and we see how she reacts with ghosts in No.83 and No.87.

If anything, she’s soft and simple until Danny is harmed.

Compared to the source novel, she’s more dependent on Jack, more submissive, and more given to panic. In the book, she’s resilient, strong, and independent.
