No.45 includes Jack screaming while sleeping in The Colorado Lounge. The last scene we saw in The Colorado Lounge was No.31 where Jack tells Wendy “the new rule”.
Wendy comes running, and Jack tells her about his dream where he killed her and Danny.
This can be read a few ways:
1) that Jack is buckling under the pressure of isolation, which is a gendered experience. Wendy and Danny are shown under the same isolation — and have been before going to the hotel.
2) Connects Jack’s experiences and Danny’s Tony/visions as a Generational Issue, much like Halloran and his grandmother. Danny tells Halloran that Tony shows him things in his sleep.
Jack’s dream where he chopped Wendy and Danny up in little pieces could essentially be this, and him seeing No.72 play out as if he’s the victor.
3. Jack’s dream could be a direct reflection of No.5 and a foreshadowing of No.53 where he conflates his dream with with Ullman tells Jack about Charles Grady’s actions in 1970 and who Jack encounters in a 1920’s party in The Gold Room. It is essentially chalking it up to “Dream Reality”.
