Roadrunner

Another cartoon from the Looney Tunes set, the Roadrunner is never seen only heard.

Known most notably for its “meep meep”, we hear it while we meet Wendy and Danny and while we see the reality of what life looks like in the hotel.

The counterpart of the Roadrunner, the Coyote, is also not seen or heard, and can thematically be connected to the lies Jack tells to get the job and then the Jack that’s waiting in the darkness to confront Wendy about what he’s written.

No.62 reflects the Roadrunner cartoon playing off screen, the gingham tablecloth, Wendy smoking, and both Danny and Wendy being distracted by Jack’s actions. In No.4, it is going to the hotel; in No.62, it is being in the hotel and how things have changed for the worse.
