What plays on the radio, television, or what shows up in magazines and newspapers all contribute to what the viewer absorbs on screen. Whatever the media is— it’s intentionally chosen for that moment, and it helps frame what’s to be taken away from the larger picture.

Communication within The Shining has a lot of references to danger, violence, it can also give a sense of time and place, foreshadow and my personal favorite- a Susan Sontag article as Illness as Metaphor.
