Conquest

From settling the hotel in the middle of a mountain, to the mounted animal heads, the culture as decoration, Jack and Grady’s conversation— conquest is a clear theme.

It speaks to American History and how it trickles down into American behavior. Jack treats his family like his dominion— and no, not every society and culture does this. It is not specifically American, but it speaks specifically to the patriarchy, control, and manipulation.
