Theme

Childish (Behavior)

Also referred to as being a “man baby”, Jack’s behavior is extremely childish, often requiring the same attention a mother would give a child, Wendy gives to Jack.

Consider how she treats him in No.45 as he’s telling her about how he’s had a dream about killing her and Danny with how she treats Danny in No.54— it is the same.

Jack is petulant and destructive, and even after trying to kill her in No.72, I read his cries in No.89:i2126 as calling for Wendy’s help while she leaves. The words are indistinct; the appeal for care is my interpretation. It is reflective of how he treats Wendy in No.31 telling her that no matter what she hears or doesn’t hear, not to come in— yet in No.45 he’s wanting sympathy and help from her.

He is threatened by his young son and murders a grown man for interfering for trying to murder his family.

Childish Destruction / Two Signs to Sober Up

Jack responds to the argument with Wendy by throwing the coffee equipment beside the 7-Up bottles. Coffee and 7-Up supply two signs to “sober up,” while his destructive behavior makes the response childish.
