Cabin Fever becomes a gendered excuse when confinement supposedly explains Jack’s violence, while domestic confinement is treated as ordinary life for Wendy. Women are expected to remain in the home, yet Jack’s experience of that same restriction becomes a rationale for murder. Wendy shares his isolation without attacking her family. Jack’s violence predates the hotel, and he deliberately rejects the company available to him. The question is why his frustration is granted so much explanatory power.
